Turenscape, the Chinese landscape-architecture firm led by Kongjian Yu, pioneered the 'sponge city' approach: designing parks, wetlands and public spaces that absorb, store and clean stormwater instead of channelling it away. Its projects reduce urban flooding, recharge groundwater and restore ecosystems while creating attractive public realm. The model has influenced national policy in China and nature-based adaptation worldwide.
