TIER Energy Network rethinks how shared e-scooters are charged. Instead of collecting scooters each night by van to recharge in warehouses, users swap a depleted battery for a charged one at partner shops and cafés ('SwapSpots'), earning free ride minutes in return. Reported at around 4,500 SwapSpots across Europe in 2023, using lower-carbon Northvolt batteries, it decentralises charging and cuts the logistics emissions that dominate micromobility's footprint.
