The Miyawaki Method
Fast Native Afforestation on Degraded Land (Japan)
Japan (applied worldwide)
Highlight
A reforestation technique that grows dense, fast-growing native forests on small or degraded plots.
Extended description
The Miyawaki Method, developed by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki, is one of the most effective techniques for quickly creating dense forest cover on degraded or former agricultural and construction land. By planting many native species close together in prepared soil, it produces fast-growing, self-sustaining, biodiverse mini-forests. Widely applied in cities worldwide, it supports carbon capture, cooling, biodiversity and ecological restoration.
