Extended description
The SMART (Stormwater Management and Road Tunnel) project in Kuala Lumpur is a unique dual-purpose tunnel about 9.7 km long. It serves as a stormwater diversion channel to protect the city centre from flooding while, in a central section, also functioning as a two-tier motorway that relieves traffic congestion. During major storms the road can be closed and given over fully to floodwater, combining climate adaptation and mobility in one structure.
