Photoncycle
Seasonal Solid-Hydrogen Energy Storage for Homes (Norway)
Oslo, Norway (first markets: Denmark, Netherlands)
Highlight
Stores surplus summer solar power as solid hydrogen so households can use it for heat and electricity in winter.
Extended description
Photoncycle, an Oslo-based scaleup, has developed a seasonal energy-storage system that lets households store surplus summer solar power for winter. A reversible fuel cell produces hydrogen from electricity and water, which is then stored in solid form through a patented process, providing both electricity and heat months later. A single system is designed to store around 10,000 kWh, addressing the seasonal mismatch that limits rooftop solar in northern climates.
