Permeable Pavements
Streets That Absorb Rainwater (Solution Type)
Global (widely applicable)
Highlight
Paving systems that let rain infiltrate into the ground, reducing runoff, flooding and pressure on sewers.
Extended description
Permeable pavements replace sealed surfaces with materials and structures that allow rainwater to infiltrate through streets, plazas and parking areas into underlying layers or soil. They reduce stormwater runoff and flood peaks, relieve pressure on drainage systems and can support groundwater recharge. Used as part of sustainable urban drainage, they are a relatively simple, widely replicable adaptation measure.
