Latitudo40 - Geospatial Intelligence Platform for Urban Climate Risk & Sustainability Monitoring
Italy · 2018 · Latitudo40
Latitudo40 has enabled cities and organizations to integrate satellite intelligence into urban climate planning workflows that previously relied on low-resolution or fragmented data. By identifying urban heat island hotspots, flood-prone zones, vegetation deficits, and land-use changes, the platform enables targeted interventions such as tree planting, green corridors, reflective surfaces, and drainage improvements. It reduces the time for environmental assessments from weeks to hours, improves the evidence base for planning decisions, and facilitates communication between technical teams and policymakers through intuitive dashboards. The solution strengthens data-driven governance and supports long-term urban adaptation and resilience planning.
Highlight
Turning satellite Earth observation data into actionable urban intelligence for climate adaptation, resilience planning, and data-driven city management.
Extended description
Latitudo40 operates at the intersection of Earth observation, artificial intelligence, and urban climate analytics. Cities generate vast amounts of environmental and spatial data, yet much remains underutilized due to its complexity, fragmentation, and lack of operational tools for decision-makers.
The platform transforms satellite imagery and geospatial datasets into actionable urban intelligence. Using remote sensing data from Copernicus Sentinel satellites and other Earth observation missions, the system applies machine learning algorithms and spatial analytics to extract indicators relevant to urban sustainability.
Key indicators include:
Land surface temperature mapping for urban heat islands
Vegetation and canopy analysis for green infrastructure planning
Impermeable surface detection for flood risk assessment
Land use change monitoring for urban expansion tracking
Air Quality and pollutants concentration
Detection of materials like Asbestos
The platform integrates these layers into dashboards and decision-support tools (based on Graphs, KPIs and structured reports) designed for municipalities, planners, and infrastructure managers. Outputs are delivered via cloud-based platforms and APIs, allowing integration into municipal systems.
Stakeholders include city governments, environmental agencies, engineering consultancies, and research institutions. The system supports urban planning departments in integrating climate variables into zoning, infrastructure design, and resilience strategies.
Systemically, the solution improves evidence-based governance by making environmental risks visible at high spatial resolution. It enables proactive adaptation strategies, improves urban resilience to heatwaves, flooding, and land degradation, and strengthens sustainability reporting aligned with policy frameworks.
Demonstrated metrics
Active in 20+ countries across Europe, North America, Asia, and the Middle East
Processes petabytes of Earth observation data from Copernicus Sentinel and other satellites
Supports environmental monitoring at building, neighborhood, and city scale, with spatial resolutions from 10 m to sub-meter datasets depending on the source
Generates indicators on land surface temperature, vegetation cover, impermeable surfaces, flood exposure, and land-use change
Applied in 50+ climate adaptation and urban resilience projects with municipalities, utilities, and infrastructure operators
Quantified CO₂ savings or avoided damages are project-specific and depend on actions implemented by municipalities
