Hammarby Sjöstad is a major Stockholm eco-district built around the 'Hammarby Model', an integrated urban metabolism linking energy, water and waste. Wastewater and organic waste generate biogas and heat, waste is recovered for energy and materials, and efficient buildings reduce demand. The district became an international reference for planning neighbourhood infrastructure as a connected circular system rather than separate utilities.
