Doughnut Economics for Cities
Amsterdam and Beyond
Amsterdam, Netherlands (and other cities)
Highlight
A model that balances social wellbeing with planetary limits to define a 'safe and just space' for cities.
Extended description
Doughnut Economics is an economic model that seeks to meet people's needs (the social foundation) without exceeding ecological limits (the environmental ceiling). Applied to cities, first and most notably in Amsterdam, it defines a 'safe and just space' and translates it into policy on housing, consumption, materials and emissions. It gives local governments a holistic framework to align social wellbeing with climate and environmental goals.
