Darlington Small Modular Reactor

Low-Carbon Nuclear Near Cities (Canada)

Darlington, Ontario, Canada

Highlight

One of the West's first grid-scale small modular reactors, providing reliable low-carbon power near urban areas.

Extended description

At Darlington in Ontario, Ontario Power Generation with GE Hitachi is building one of the first grid-scale small modular reactors (SMRs) in the Western world. SMRs are compact nuclear units designed to provide reliable, low-carbon electricity near urban and industrial areas, with factory-built components intended to speed deployment. The project is an early test of SMRs as a firm, low-carbon complement to renewables.
