Cool Cities: Art as a Medium for Climate Communication (Yale)

New Haven, Connecticut, USA

Highlight

Heat-reflective murals that cool building façades while sparking public conversation about climate.

Extended description

Cool Cities, led by Yale University with local partners, turns building façades into tools against urban heat. Murals are painted with heat-reflective 'cooling paints' that lower surface temperatures, combining a thermal function with public art and communication. Designs inspired by climate data or neighbourhood culture turn otherwise anonymous walls into visible spaces that cool their surroundings and raise awareness of climate change and urban adaptation.
