Building with Nature

EcoShape

Netherlands (with international pilots)

Highlight

Nature-based coastal infrastructure that harnesses natural sediment and ecosystems to protect cities from climate risks.

Extended description

Building with Nature, led by the Dutch consortium EcoShape, rethinks coastal and water protection by designing infrastructure that works with natural processes rather than against them. Instead of relying only on seawalls, it restores sediment flows, tidal dynamics, wetlands and mangroves that naturally reduce flooding and erosion. Applied in vulnerable coasts and deltas, it strengthens climate resilience while improving biodiversity, water quality and long-term urban sustainability.
