Barcelona's Superblocks (Superilles) reorganise traffic across groups of city blocks so through-traffic is kept to perimeter streets and interior streets prioritise walking, cycling, play and public life. Road space can then be transformed with seating and greenery, reducing noise and local air pollution and creating cooler, safer neighbourhood spaces. The model has become an international reference for reallocating urban space away from cars.
