Arcon-Sunmark

Large-Scale Solar Thermal for District Heating

Skørping, Denmark (projects internationally)

Highlight

The world's largest solar-thermal fields, making solar one of the cheapest heat sources for district heating.

Extended description

Arcon-Sunmark, a Danish company, builds the world's largest solar-thermal collector fields for district-heating networks. Its large flat-plate systems (HT Plus series) reach up to about 110 MW thermal in a single installation, with operating temperatures of 40–100°C, and have been deployed in Denmark, Germany, Austria, China and elsewhere. By supplying low-cost renewable heat, reportedly under EUR 20/MWh, it has made solar a competitive heat source for district heating.
